Commonwealth Games is a multi-sport event and thousands of participants come from all the member Nations of Commonwealth. It can be called the largest multi-sport event and is organized every four years. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) looks after the event, controls it, and also chooses the nation to be hosting the following Games. Around 71 teams from 54 member nations currently participate in this sports event.

The first edition of the Games was held in 1930 in the name of British Empire Games, as it was known then. It continued under this name till 1950 and then underwent a change in name and came to be known as the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1954. In 1970 and 1974 it was known as British Commonwealth Games. In 1978, it was first held under the name of Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada.

The previous of these games was hosted by Melbourne, Australia in 2006 and the forthcoming Games are to be held in Delhi, India from 3rd October to 14th October, 2010. The preparations for this nineteenth edition of the event are well under its way. The total budget estimated for this is a whopping US$1.6 million and it excludes infrastructural development like that of roads, airports, buildings, and transportation.

To facilitate transportation, Delhi has come up with proposals of four-lane underground stretches, construction of roads, under-bridges, and over-bridges along railway lines, flyovers and cloverleaf flyovers, nine bus corridors, high-capacity bus systems, and a major uplift of the Delhi Metro system exponentially increasing the area of connectivity. The airport is being modernized, expanding its capacity and introducing various upgraded features. It will be the first time that India will be hosting the Commonwealth games and thus all eyes are set on how well India manages and expectations are definitely high.

In 1982 India has been hosted the Asian Games and after a gap of nearly 28 years now the Commonwealth Games is going to held in Delhi India. Delhi is doing all the preparation for the historic day of commonwealth games as coming closer to meet the expectations of the participants and the tourists for accentuating the amenities provided to the travelers. This largest sport event is going to held first time in India and for the second time in Asia and it will impact on the economy of the hosting country that will surely gives boom to the tourism industry of India and as well the Rajasthan Tourism Industry.

In commonwealth games various countries including their sub-continents are participating like as Asian countries, Africa, America, Caribbean, European countries and Oceania so the thousands supporters, tourists and sport lovers will arrive to India and all the tourism sector are geared up for the Commonwealth Games. Expectations are positive that the travel & hotel industry will benefit the maximum from the influx of spectators and participants from different countries, for the Games.

The main travel destinations that can sell like the hot cake in the CWG season are Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Ranthambore, Sariska, Mathura, Vrindavan among others and it will boost the hotel industry, aviation industry, travel agents and tour operators of Rajasthan as well.

Government of Rajasthan is also planning to commence the ‘Discover Rajasthan in Common Wealth Games 2010′ programme to cash in the 10 million tourists that are expected to step on India’s turf, during the second most important sports event. During this grand event several shopping and traveling events would be launched in Rajasthan to attract more tourists such as the Rajasthan has developed special commonwealth tourist packages for the expected foreigner tourists. Tourists can take professional help in preparing their incredible Rajasthan tours, which will help them in arranging an enjoyable tour throughout the Rajasthan.
